Homework

Homework may be assigned to all students daily. Kindergarten students can average 10 minutes a night while 6th grade students can average about 60 minutes a night. Parents may wish to set aside a specific time each evening for students to complete the assigned homework. Parents should set aside time each evening to read to their children or listen to them read. All students are expected to record their reading minutes each week and return the information to their teacher.

 

Life Skills

We emphasize Life Skills at Penngrove School. Each month a skill such as courage, effort, or patience is highlighted by our staff. Students who demonstrate appropriate Life Skills are given tickets, which may be deposited, in the office in our Life Skills box. Tickets are drawn weekly and students are acknowledged at our weekly assembly. The Life Skill of the month is included in class discussions, activities and books that are read during class time.

General School Agreements

As a student of Penngrove School, I will be responsible for promoting a safe school environment by following directions, respecting the rights of others, contributing to a positive learning enviroment and accepting the consequences for all my actions.

I will be responsible by being polite and respectful to all staff, adults and students on campus. Back talk, sassing, inappropriate language or defiant behavior is not
acceptable. This includes verbal harassment.

I will be responsible by behaving in a way that allows others to learn (no disruptive behavior)

I will be responsible by not engaging in any physical fights.

I will be responsible by respecting personal and school property.

I will be responsible by staying in assigned/supervised areas at all times.

I will be responsible by keeping my hands and feet to myself. Rough play and physical contact is not allowed.

I will be responsible by doing my part to keep the school litter free.

I will be responsible by not chewing gum at school.

I will be responsible by keeping radios, tape recorders, toys etc. at home and only bringing them to school when permission is given by the classroom teacher for a project.

I will be responsible by following individual classroom rules.

Student Dress and Grooming

When children feel good about their appearance, they are more receptive to learning. The school is the child’s place of business, and the student dress should be appropriate for school activities and an educational environment. Student dress should avoid extremes that bring undue attention to the student or disrupt the educational process. In addition, clothing, buttons, or jewelry with letters, pictures, or insignia that are profane, vulgar, or display alcohol or drugs. We ask that students wear closed toe shoes so that they can play and run comfortably on the yard.
 

Student Study Team

The Student Study Team is a school site team that includes the teacher, parents and other personnel who may have had experience working with a particular student. The SST functions as part of the regular education program and uses systematic problem solving approach to assist students who may not be progressing satisfactorily. During the meeting, the team identifies the student’s strengths and clarifies the problems and concerns, develops strategies, and organizes resources. Modifications to the student’s program are developed and follow up meetings are scheduled as needed. Students who need further assistance may be referred to our special education personnel for additional assessment.
