Discipline Policy
The Penngrove staff is committed to providing a safe school
environment in which all students can learn. Our discipline policy has been established
in order to support a positive learning environment for all students. We believe that most
students want to do the right thing and because of this belief, we look for opportunities
to acknowledge students who are behaving. The use of LifeSkill tickets as well as Panther
Paws helps us acknowledge students who are following the rules. Students will be held responsible
for their behaviors and actions. Please see the information about our BEST program for specific guidelines.
Sexual Harassment Policy
It is the policy of the Governing Board of Education of the Petaluma (City) Elementary and
Joint Union High School Districts to provide an educational environment free of sexual harassment.
A copy of the policy is sent home yearly in the School Community Newsletter. Additional copies
are posted in the school office and full written policies are available upon request.
The title IX officers at Penngrove Elementary School are the principal and a teacher who is assigned yearly.
Birthday Policy
Because the teachers at Penngrove School value academic time, we have adopted a school
wide birthday policy. In the past, children have often brought cupcakes to celebrate their
birthdays, which takes away from instructional time. Instead, we are asking you to let your
child participate in our Birthday Book Program. Here is how it works: your child treats
his/’her class to a book. If you’d like…it can be wrapped and decorated with a ribbon.
It then becomes a permanent part of our classroom library. The teacher will glue
a school photo of your child to the inside cover and add special inscription. This
becomes a very special present, one that will long outlast a sugary treat that is gobbled
up in minutes! We feel that birthdays are important and this is a good way to tie them into
academics. Remember, sending a book is strictly optional.
