Emergency Procedures

Please make sure that your emergency numbers on your child’s registration card are up-to-date. This includes the number of a person who will be responsible for your child when you are away from home during school hours. Students will not be released to someone who is not listed on the emergency card. Be sure to notify the office when there has been a change in your work or home phone number or address. It is comforting for a child to know that we have reached a loved one in a timely manner in the event of an emergency. In case of an emergency, please tune in to one of these radio stations to receive a message in connection with the Petaluma Schools.

Nurse

Our school nurse is on campus one day each week. The school nurse completes all the Kindergarten screening, makes sure that immunization records are current and up to date, and completes hearing and eye checks and scoliosis screening for the intermediate grades. If you have any questions or concerns regarding student health issues, she can be reached at Penngrove School.

Medication

Penngrove staff, without written permission of a doctor may administer no medication, including any over the counter drugs. The written statement must include when the medication is to be taken, any possible side effects and the specific amount to be administered. All medications must be stored at school in a current prescription bottle in the school medicine cabinet. Medication forms may be obtained in the office.

TB Testing and Finger Printing

Volunteers need to have on file with the District Office proof of a clear TB test. Volunteers who are not parents of students at Penngrove need to have a TB test along with a criminal background check via finger printing through our District Office.

Illness and Accidents

If a student is not feeling well and registers a temperature or shows other signs of illness, the parent will be notified. In case of an accident at school, emergency first aid will be administered and the parent notified. If parents cannot be contacted; a person listed on the emergency card will be called. In the event of an emergency requiring more than first aid, 911 will be dispatched. (Please make sure current emergency numbers are on file at all times.)

Lice Screening

In an effort to control possible outbreaks of head lice throughout the year, students may be screened for lice infestation after each break. In addition, we are asking that parents screen their children periodically for lice and notify the school immediately in the event that their child has had a lice outbreak. Notifying the school will allow us to screen the classroom and the child’s playmates in order that a possible outbreak can be prevented. Please call the school office if you need any information regarding how to screen your child or treat your child in the event that they may have contracted lice. See enclosed lice screening procedures for further information.

Accident Insurance

The school district does not carry any form of accident insurance on the students. The district does, however, make this coverage available to any parent who wishes to purchase it. The prices range from $11.00 - $148.00 for a full year’s coverage, depending on the type of plan purchased. Applications will be sent home during the first month of school and will be available in the office for students on an emergency basis only.
